Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Physical Education at Cockermouth School

Course description

SYLLABUS CONTENT AS 2 Units Unit 1: - Intro to PE (60%) includes Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring Movement Skills, Socio Cultural Studies. Unit 2 Performance, Skills & Evaluation (40%) inculdes performance in two different sports OR Performance and Coaching (diff sports) OR Performance and Official (diff sports). In A2 2 Units Unit 1: Concepts across different PE areas (70%) including Socio Cultural, History of Sport, Comparative Studies, Scientific Focus, Exercise Physiology and Psychology of Sport. 3 units from the above must be studied. Unit 2: Performance and its Evaluation (30%) - Performance of ONE sport, Evaluation of performance.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (A*-C) for entry into Sixth Form. AS PE to do A2.

Assessment

Year 12 has a 2 hour written paper, an internal assessment and an external moderation. Year 13 has a 2.5 written exam and as per Year 12.

Future opportunities

This can lead to numerous degrees , especially Sports Science.
