Health and Social Care BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Southport College

Course description

This course is designed to provide you with experience and an insight into the health and social care sector. It is an ideal starting block if you are looking to pursue a career in nursing, social work or occupational therapy.

Course content

You will learn about a range of subject areas including: 
Communication in Health and Social Care
Ensuring safe environments in Health and Social Care
Vocational experience in a Health and Social Care setting
The impact of diet on health
In addition, you will also take part in a work placement in a relevant health and social care setting.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at Grade D or relevant Level 1 qualification 
Satisfactory DBS*
Successful interview 
Satisfactory reference 


You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. There 2 units that are externally assessed and all remaining units are assessed through College-based assignments that are externally moderated. You will attend a relevant Health and Social care setting for work placement one day a week, your progress will be closely monitored, by setting clear objectives, supervision and assessment.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, You should be able to progress to employment in the sector,in a supervised role.
You can also progress to study level 3 programmes such as BTEC Level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care, CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce or other relevant Level 3 qualifications
