Graphics A Level at Sunderland College

Course description

If you have an interest in graphics and art subjects, and enjoy studio based work as well as digital then this course is the ideal for you.

Course content

You will to explore a wide range of graphics materials, techniques and processes while learning about the work of designers. Some of the art based practice covered will be taught in the studio and will connect to traditional graphics such as printmaking, illustration and hand crafted techniques. Where as the other session will concentrate on the more contemporary practice and be a computer based session using programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Both areas are not exclusive of the each other and the work is brought together as one subject.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including a GCSE grade C or above in an art and design subject.

Assessment

You will learn through a combination of practical lessons in the studio and digital classroom and independent critical research will often be supported by visits to regional and national exhibitions galleries.

Future opportunities

You could go on to study A2 Graphic Design which could lead to art and design full time through a HND course at the college or apply directly to a degree in graphic design or a similar graphic course.

    • Bede Campus is located just outside Sunderland city centre on Durham Road.

      It provides an excellent learning environment for academic and vocational courses including new state of the art science labs and a dedicated learning resource centre with internet café, helping ensure the quality of our education is matched by our facilities.

      As the dedicated campus for our sports provision the Sports Academy building spans some 30,000 sq.ft and features a includes a multi-use sports hall, sports science performance lab, sports massage treatment areas, exercise studio and fully equipped gym with TechnoGym cardiovascular machines. The campus also features the multi million pound Goals Soccer Centrecomprising of 10 floodlit all weather synthetic pitches. These facilities are used extensively for lessons and are also available free of charge for any of our students.

      Spanning 50,000 square feet, the Visual and Performing Arts building features a theatre; film screening room; media/TV, drama, dance, art, and fashion and clothing studio; two industry standard recording studios; a music technology suite; photography studio; dark room and film processing facilities.
