Vehicle Fitting Principles (IMI) - Level 2 Diploma at Middlesbrough College
The course covers the whole range of Motor Vehicle Engineering skills from routine maintenance to advanced repair techniques. The course leads toward the Technical Certificate requirement of a Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship and covers the underpinning knowledge for the VCQ (Vocational Competence Qualification).
Vocational Units: • Suspension • Steering • Tyres • Brakes • Clutches • Battery and components • Assessing and Securing the Roadside Situation • Materials, Fabrication, Tools & Equipment • Exhaust Components As part of your learning programme you will also attend the following session: Maths (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in Maths) English (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English Language) Study Skills 1:1 Tutorials Enrichment activities
Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (IMI) - Level 1 "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."
You will be assessed through written assignments and there will also be computer-based multi choice exam and written test during the year to cover the units studied. You will also be required to build a portfolio of evidence from workshop practical activities carried out in College.

During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Following completion of the first year, students have the option to progress to a Level 3 course in Motor Vehicle Maintenance or MET. To enter the Motor Vehicle Trade a Level 2 qualification is generally considered to be the minimum level acceptable to find employment within the automotive sector. Many of the students who successfully complete this course take up employment in the Automotive Industry and then continue with their studies on a part time basis and work towards an NVQ and completion of an Advanced Apprenticeship.
