Hair and Beauty City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

This course is designed for both men and women who are seeking to enter into a career in hairdressing and will include English and Maths

Course content

This course will cover the following topics: * Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to Health & Safety * Assist with salon reception duties * Contribute to the development of effective working relationships * Shampoo and condition hair * Prepare for hair services and maintain work areas * Prepare and maintain salon treatment work area * Assist with hair colouring services * Plait and twist hair using basic techniques * Assist with facial skin care and treatments * Blow dry hair * Assist with nail services * Students are also expected to gain work experience in a salon while on the course

Entry requirements

Applicants must have some GCSE's at Grade E or E3 assessment in Literacy or ESOL. Any industrial experience that applicants may have will work as an advantage. You must pass the written and practical tests set at interview

Assessment

This programme is assessed by a range of methods including projects, practical observations, oral questions and external written tests.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete this course can progress to NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing/ Beauty Therapy. Alternatively, others may choose to find employment opportunities as a junior/assistant with European or Afro-Caribbean salons.
