ESOL for Young People at Redbridge College

Course description

Our courses offer a practical, real-world approach to help you achieve your ambitions and reach your potential. We are one of the smallest colleges in the area, and have a unique and friendly community atmosphere. We are also incredibly diverse: our students come from over 40 different countries and speak more than 65 languages, so you’ll meet new friends from the other side of the world, not just the other side of town.

Course content

The main focus for all learners is speaking, listening, reading and writing English. Learners will also study IT and maths. Depending on your level, you will also study a variety of vocational subjects; such as:

  • Health
  • Music
  • History of London
  • Business
  • Diversity

Learners will also take part in educational visits throughout the year, where you will get the chance to practice your language skills in a real world environment.

Entry requirements

You do not require any qualifications to join the classes. We will assess your level before you start the course.


You will have a diagnostic assessment when you start the course and receive a Personal Learning Plan to help keep you on track plus termly progress tests. Assessment will take place through written and spoken tests and portfolio work.

Future opportunities

At the end of your course you should be ready to progress to the next level of study. Once you have achieved ESOL Gold (Level 1) you will have the opportunity to progress to vocational courses, whilst continuing to receive English support. You will also be able to use your improved English skills in everyday life.
