Music at Fairfax School

Course description

The first year students will study the AS units as follows Unit 1 Influences on Music Unit 2 Creating Musical Ideas - Externally assessed Coursework which can be either (a) Compositional Techniques or (b) Free composition or pastiche or (c) Arranging Unit 3 Interpreting Musical Ideas which is Centre assessed Coursework. Upon successful completion of the AS GCE, students will continue to study : Unit 4 Music in Context Unit 5 Developing Musical Ideas which is Externally assessed Coursework and can be either (a) Compositional Techniques, (b) Free composition or pastiche, or (c) Arranging Unit 6 A Musical Performance which is externally assessed. This lessons for this course will be taken at John Willmott School, which is across the road from Fairfax.

Entry requirements

Grade B in any GCSE. Grade C in GCSE English Language, a Distinction at BTEC or Grade 4 in your main instrument
