Course description

The course content for AS is: Unit 1: Investigating Media - Examination 1.5 hours Students study moving image, digital/web-based (e-media) and print, as well as media themes including: Platforms e.g., e-media, broadcasting and print Printed communications Cross media studies from broadcast fiction, film fiction, documentary, lifestyle music, news and sport. The exam also requires students to complete an essay on a cross media case study. Unit 2: Creating Media - Two linked production pieces This unit combines independent research, preproduction and planning a practical production with technical and creative skills. Students must have knowledge of relevant codes and conventions and an awareness of the relevance of platforms and target audiences. Unit 3: Media: Critical Perspectives - Examination 1.5 hours Students look at representations in the media and the impact of new/digital media. They will debate cross media issues and explore current theories. In the exam, students will be asked to write on previously unseen stimulus, as well as to write an essay on an issue that they will be familiar with. Unit 4: Media: Research and Production - Production Piece Students will carry out some critical research into a media text or theme, building upon knowledge gained in previous units. They will carry out a critical investigation and produce a linked production piece, which will be worth half of their assessment for their final year.

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements   5 A*-C Grade B to study specific A Level or Grade B English Language if subject has not been studied previously
