English & English Language GCSE at Samuel Lister Academy
The course provides opportunity for students to understand the written and spoken word, develop listening skills and improve grammar, punctuation and spelling.
English is a core subject here at Aire Valley and so you will be taking the exam at GCSE level. The English course is broken up into 2 exams and 3 controlled assessements spread over the two years. The exams include reading and writing in depth articles and theinternal assessementswill involve Shakespeare, wider reading and speaking and listening activities.
There are no entry requirements for English GCSE as everyone is required by law to take English GCSE.
The controlled assessements are carried out in class after a unit of work has been taught.
Most Further Education courses(6th forms and colleges) and Higher Education courses(universities) require you to have achieved at least a grade C in this subject to study with them. If you decide to leave school at the end of your GCSEs it is probable that 99% of employers will want you to have achieved at least a grade C in English GCSE so you really do need to work hard in this subject.
