Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeships at Hull College Group

Course description

If you are interested in a career in working and learning skills as a Sewing Machinist, Textile Operative, pattern cutter or Dressmaker an Apprenticeship in the Fashion and Textiles Industry may be for you.

You could work in an organisation which produces items of soft furnishings, Clothing or alterations in a variety of organisations such as bridal shops, interior soft furnishing shops, garment manufacturers or tailors.

  • Pattern Cutter

Course content

The Apprenticeship offers 2 different frameworks:

  1. An Intermediate Level Apprenticeship (Level 2)
  2. An Advanced Level Apprenticeship (Level 3)

On a Level 2 Apprenticeship you will study:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Manufacturing Textile Products
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Apparel, Footwear, Leather or Textile


  • Functional skills in English and Maths (depending on previous qualifications)

Entry requirements

Applicants may have prior experience or qualifications in any of the Creative industries or Creative support roles, supported by a portfolio of evidence, but this is not mandatory as training providers and employers will use initial assessment to ensure that applicants have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their ability.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the Fashion and textiles Apprenticeship, you could go on to the next level of study through and Advanced or Higher apprenticeship in Fashion and Textiles. Learners may also progress onto other specialist level 3 or 4 qualifications or Higher education.

The College is also fortunate to have an active Student Union which hosts an annual ‘Freshers’ Fair’ for students at the beginning of the Autumn term and organises social events throughout the year.

      Hull College students benefit from some of the best facilities in the country – and that’s official! Our most recent Ofsted report stated that the College has “outstanding specialist facilities”.
