Media Studies A Level at Bedford Academy

Course description

A creative and aspirational subject, which offers a variety of differnet media related tasks, projects and opportunities. Media Studies examines contemporary forms of mass communication such as TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, film and the internet. You will study the values and messages within the media, how media texts are constructed and how contemporary audiences respond to them.

Course content

You will learn the underpinning concepts and theories and the fundamental producation skills such as designing, filming and editing. At AS you study key concepts such as media language, media representations, media reception and media production across different areas including television, radio, film, magazines, newspapers, music promotion, advertising and e-media. At A2 you will further develop your theoretical and production skills creating a music video along with a musc artist promotional campaign.

Assessment

A Levl Media Studies will be assessed with a written piece of coursework (50%) and an exam (50%) for AS and A2.

Future opportunities

Media naturally lends itself to careers in films and television, journalism, music, marketing, advertising or public relations. Wider careers supported by media studies include: social work, law, medicine and education.
