Art and Design A Level at Drapers' Academy

Course description

The main purpose of this course is to develop your creativity and skills so you can interpret and convey your ideas, as well as a specialist vocabulary and an appreciation of the place of art in contemporary society.

Course content

We offer the following specialisms: Art, Craft and Design, Fine Art, Textile Design, and ThreeDimensional Design.

Unit 1: A Portfolio of Work In this unit candidates will write their own project brief with guidance from their teacher. This unit will be completed by the end of January

Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment The starting point for unit 2 is set by the exam board, AQA. The candidate will have a preparatory period followed by supervised time of 10 hours in which to produce a final piece or pieces. This unit will be complete by the end of April.

Unit 3: The Personal Investigation This is a practical unit with written elements in which candidates are expected to develop a personal investigation.

Unit 4: Externally Set Assignment The starting point for this project is set by the exam board, AQA. The candidate will have will have a preparatory period followed by supervised time of 15 hours in which to produce a final piece or pieces.

Entry requirements

Students ideally would have studied Art at GCSE and gained at least a grade B. Any student who hasn’t studied GCSE Art will be required to show a portfolio of their work.
