Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 at Grace Academy Darlaston

Course description

Students on the BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts course will encounter an exciting array of vastly differing acting styles. They will develop skills in acting and performing, and will play a crucial role in the organisation and development of performance pieces. The course is practical, involving performance, coursework, and many opportunities to take part in plays and productions. Students will develop knowledge of the styles of practitioners, and explore the ideas and themes of contemporary theatre, as well as devising and producing original work.

Course content

Year 1: Unit 7: Performing to an Audience, Unit 9: Devising Plays, Unit 11: Theatre for Children,

Year 2: Unit 14: Musical Theatre Performance, Unit 16: Performing with Masks, Unit 28: Storytelling as Performance

Entry requirements

Students will need 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Grade C in either English Language or English Literature as evidence that they can produce the necessary written coursework.

A typical Performing Arts student is lively, ambitious, hardworking and expressive. It is vital that they should be willing to perform in public, work with others, solve problems, plan their own learning, and communicate effectively through speaking. Students should also be able to use information technology for research, and for drafting and writing coursework.

BTEC qualifications are valued in Higher Education and by employers. Students could consider Higher Education and careers in the following areas:

Theatre and Performance-related activities:

  • A Performing Arts degree
  • A degree in Acting, Performance or Media Performance
  • Performance design and management
  • Careers in Acting, Entertainment and performance industries
  • Performance support, Arts Administration, workshop leadership and support

Depending on other Advanced level courses, students could also consider working in Drama Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Teaching, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or Travel and Tourism.
