Motorsport Vehicle Maintenance & Repair IMI Diploma Level 2 at Fareham College

Course description

If you’re a practical, hands-on sort of person who enjoys getting stuck in, a Motor Vehicle course could be just what you’re looking for.

Getting skilled in this field will give you the start you need in a trade that is always in high demand.

Our teachers are vocational experts and use their skills and experience very effectively to motivate and support students to achieve.

This qualification is aimed at enthusiastic students who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of the requirements of an automotive technician within the motorsport performance road and or / retail motor industries.


Course content

You will gain an understanding of material, fabrication, tools and measuring and complete units including:

  • Event regulations

  • Engine mechanical, lubrications, cooling system units and components

  • Fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units and components.  

  • Removal and replacement of chassis units and components

  • Inspection of competition vehicles

  • Removal and replacement of electrical units and components

  • Removal and replacement of transmission, driveline and components

All learners will receive a broad knowledge of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in the motorsport industry.

You will also have the opportunity to study additional specialist units to gain further knowledge relating to motorsport maintenance and repair.


Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade D or above, a Level 1 qualification in Motor Vehicle studies or equivalent experience and knowledge.


Assessment will be through a combination of practical assessments, online and written knowledge tests.

Financial information

Students will be required to purchase and wear overalls, steel toe cap safety shoes and safety glasses. A list of professional clothing will be supplied at your application interview.

Future opportunities

You can progress in to a Level 3 qualification, Apprenticeship, or secure employment within the industry.

Courses will prepare Student for a terrific career in the industry. Graduates go on to perform a number of industry-related areas including: Mechanics, Accident Repair, Agricultural/Mining Machinery Repair, Armed Forces (Transportation), Motorsport, Maintenance Engineer, Roadside Recovery, the Police and many more

    • All Automotive, Engineering and Manufacturing courses run by Fareham College are conducted at our Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Manufacturing and Advanced Skills Training, or CEMAST, campus on the Daedalus airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent.
