Entry to Uniformed Services Level 1 NCFE Diploma at Isle of Wight College
This course will introduce and allow you to gain experience in a variety of topic areas such as outdoor activities, public services. The course has a focus on practical activities; however you will be expected to also complete assignment work.
You will prepare for and take part in various outdoor activities; work in a team; manage your time effectively and have a good awareness of Health & Safety. The skills developed will support you in a variety of job roles within the uniformed services.
This course is a full time and is suitable for students 16 years or above.
The course is designed for students who are interested in a career in any uniformed service and wish to develop a good knowledge and understanding of the skills required in order to progress to further learning or a career in a uniformed service. During the course you will gain knowledge and understanding relating to the following areas and also secure learning through practical application.
- Investigate employment opportunities
- Wel-being and physical fitness
- Team working skills
- Developing self-discipline
- Health and safety
- Map reading and navigation
- Participate in adventurous activity
- Explore volunteering and volunteering opportunities
The qualification provides learners with a good insight into the practical qualities they require, not only for the uniformed public services, but also for employment in general. The choice of units offered across Level 1 gives learners the opportunity to demonstrate a variety of necessary skills that employers are seeking, whilst enjoying their learning.
You will study English and Maths GCSE/Functional Skills which are essential for employment in any job sector and for progression.
You will also undertake The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme (Bronze or Silver) alongside the main course, the following sections will be covered:
Students should have at least one of the following:
- Three GCSEs at grades E or above including GCSE English
- Current College students will be expected to have successfully completed their current course of study and functional skills
The course is delivered by specialist staff, who possess industry experience along with specialist qualifications. Teaching sessions incorporate a mixture of activities to ensure students develop skills and knowledge.
Students are assessed through a combination of internally assessed coursework and externally assessed examinations. This helps students to develop core skills required for the industry which include ability to meet deadlines and retention of knowledge as well as application of skills.
Upon successful completion of the Public Services Level 1 course (including the necessary functional skills) you can progress onto either a Public Services Level 2 course.
