Health and Social Care (Level 3) at Central College Nottingham

Course description

The Health or Social Care sector including Care Assistants, Support Staff in Health, Care or Early Years settings.

Course content

You will attend three different work placements over 2 years.

Subjects studied include:

  • Equality, Diversity and Rights
  • Health, Safety and Security
  • Development through the Life Stages
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Sociology and Psychology
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths

Specialist units include:

  • Caring for Children and Young People
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Nutrition and Research
  • Challenging Behaviour
  • Dementia Care
  • Caring for Older People
  • Coping with Change

English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and Maths*
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification including GCSE English Language and Maths* at grade A*-C

*If you do not have both GCSE English Language and Maths at A*-C, we may accept one of them at Grade D in addition to your 4 GCSEs at A*-C. Functional Skills may be accepted instead of GCSE English and/or Maths. Functional Skills Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE Grade D and Level 2 to GCSE Grade C.

Adults who are aged 19+ with relevant industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

Assessment

Assessment is mainly via coursework.

Future opportunities

Progress on to degree level study in the following areas: Nursing, Social Work, Youth Work, Social Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Radiography or Environmental Health.

Further information

To support your application we will ask you to bring in a school report.

This course is only for applicants aged 18 years to ensure they can complete the programme without having to pay tuition fees in the second year. You will be expected to pay for a DBS check (£45) and a T-shirt for placement (approx. £10). It is recommended that 2 textbooks are purchased (approx. £22 each). You have to pay for your own travel costs to your placement.
