IT - BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Grange Technology College
A BTEC level 2 Diploma in ICT is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace solutions, activities and demands.
It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work related qualification.
A BTEC level 2 Diploma in ICT is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A-C.

You will study 3 mandatory units plus optional units that provide a combined total of 60 credits. Below are some of the units you will be offered.
Mandatory Units (for Diploma)
Unit 1 - Working in the IT Industry (6 credits)
Looking at personal attributes that are valued by employers and the common job roles undertaken by people working in the ICT industry.
Unit 2 - Communicating in the IT Industry (5 credits)
Looking at communicating with technical and non-technical people and the use of IT to communicate effectively.
Unit 3 - Computer Systems (10 credits)
Looking atthe common hardware and software components of computer systems, safely connecting hardware devices and configuring software.
Plus optional/specialist units
Unit 16 - Website Development (10 credits)
Unit 19 - Computer Graphics (10 credits)
Unit 24 - Animation Techniques (10 credits)
Unit 26 Interactive Media Production (10 credits)
Entry requirements are at least one of the following:
- BTEC foundation Certificate in related subject
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy supported by general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade D-G
- Related work experience
- As the course is 100% course work it is essential to have good organisational and time management skills
- Other related level 1 or 2 qualification
All units are internally assessed, graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
This is a hands on course that requires hard work and dedication. Also deadlines have to be met and to do this you will need to be organised and manage your time well.
This course provides good grounding to go on to a more advanced course in the sixth form such as:
BTEC Level 3 Nationals in IT
GCE Applied ICT
With further training or study, you can go into careers such as Games Designer, Website Developer, Technician, ICT help desk, PC Maintenance and many more!
