Motor Vehicle Maintenance (Level 1) Diploma at Tresham College of Further and Higher Education

Course description

You will study a range of topics through both theory and practical work including health and safety, vehicle system skills, use of tools and equipment, basic vehicle maintenance, brakes, ignition, fuel, exhaust, steering, electrics and suspension. You will work towards the City and Guilds VRQ units as appropriate.

Entry requirements

A range of GCSEs at E-G or above including English and preferably maths or equivalent, OR an Entry Level course with good evidence of ability to achieve at a higher level.


There will be continuous assessment and some tests.

Financial information

You will need to purchase your own personal protective equipment (PPE) for the course including safety boots and overalls, approx. cost £50 - £60.

Future opportunities

Successful completion can lead to the Level 2 study programme in Vehicle Maintenance or into employment as part of an Apprenticeship programme.

      The IT Focus Centre, based within the Wellingborough Campus, is the only approved academy for Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA in the local area and offers specialist and industry specific application training in all aspects of computers and computer technology to suit the needs of advanced IT users, IT Technicians and IT Engineers. It is also the only authorised VUE Test Centre in the County.

      Wellingborough campus also has a dedicated Motor Vehicle Centre and workshops for Plumbing, Heating and Ventilation and Electrical Installation.

      Skills for Life Workshops are available to improve basic Maths and English skills as English classes for Speakers of Other Languages.
