Construction Multi Trades C&G Entry Level at Northbrook College Sussex

Course description

This pre-Level 1 course enables the learner to investigate several trades, such as bricklaying, carpentry and painting and decorating, before deciding on a trade-specific route for further study. The course also investigates various aspects of the construction industry and the employment opportunities that it presents. Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths are part of the core programme of study. Students who have not achieved an appropriate grade in English and Maths will be required to study the appropriate level as part of their main qualification.

  • Introduction to Health and Safety
  • Handling and Storing Materials and Components
  • Personal Work Skills
  • Introduction to Self-Employment
  • Carrying out Brickwork Operations
  • Carrying out Woodwork Operations
  • Carrying out Painting and Decorating Operations

Entry requirements

English and Maths assessed at interview plus successful interview and reference


The course is assessed through practical assignments and assessments and theory based portfolios. Safety footwear and overalls are required for the workshops.

Future opportunities

After 1 year you can achieve an Ascentis Entry Level Diploma in Skills for Employment in the Construction Industries. This means you can apply for one of our Level 1 courses in Carpentry or Bricklaying or you can apply for an apprenticeship and employment with a local company.
