Access to Higher Education at Aylesbury College

Course description

The Access to Higher Education course is designed to meet the needs of those who have sustained a significant gap in their
education and would like to go on to university.
This qualification is equivalent in standard to other Level 3 qualifications, such as A Levels. We can now offer two pathways: Access to HE (Combined Studies), Access to HE (Health Professions and Social Sciences)

Course content

The course is made up of core subjects and optional subjects. You will need to choose three option subjects. You will undertake the following core options: Application of Number, Communication, Information Technology and Wider Key Skills. Please see Example Modules for the optional subjects.

Entry requirements

You should be 19 or over and you must achieve a Level 2 diagnostic assessment.


There is a mixture of coursework, an independent research project and a final examination.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of the Access to Higher Education Diploma allows you entry for an Honours Degree at a majority of Higher Education institutions in the UK, including University Centre Aylesbury Vale (UCAV).

On successful completion of the course, students can go on to university and study for their chosen career path, which may include teaching, midwifery, nursing and journalism.
