Course description

The Academy offers individuals the opportunity to gain industry recognised Motor Vehicle Technician qualifications. This career path could lead to employment in a car dealership or progression to Higher Education and a possible career in motor sport or vehicle engineering. For students looking for a career that is challenging 'hands on' and offers the opportunity to work in a sector where technology if ever changing then Motor Vehicle could be of interest.

The qualification comprises a 50% split of theoretical and practical hands on knowledge of the following areas:

  • Industry related health & safety
  • Tools, equipment and workshop practice
  • Braking systems
  • Wheels and tyres
  • Vehicle electrical foundation skills
  • Engine components and operation
  • Vehicle inspection and servicing procedures

Assessment will be by observation of skills and written assessments as well as a number of online exams.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are the successful completion of an interview and assessment day, there are no formal GCSE requirements. This course allows students an opportunity to access motor vehicle studies if they have not gained GCSE grade C's in English and Maths.
