IT (Business) Level 3 Extended Diploma at Northampton College

Course description

This two year course is aimed at students wishing to develop a range of higher level IT skills for working in the IT industry. The method of learning is by lecturer led sessions.The core units you will study include:- Communicaton and Employability Skills for IT- Computer Systems- Information Systems- Impact the use of IT on Business Systems- Organisational Systems Security- e-commerceThe speciallist units* available will include:- Spreadsheet Modelling- Database Design- Event Driven Programming- Human Computer Interaction- Website Production- Web Server Scripting- Digital Graphics and Computers- Developing Computer Games- Client-side Customisation of Web Pages*Specialist units are subject to change.

Course content

The qualification will be suitable for anyone wanting to gain a range of knowledge within programming, web development, e-commerce, and advanced IT skills required within employment. The Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C or above including English Language and Maths or:A Level 2 qualification in IT at Merit plus GCSE Maths and English at Grade A*-C.

Assessment

You will be subject to continuous assessment (normally three or four assignments per module). A variety of assessment methods will be used although these are all coursework based.

Future opportunities

After successful completion at Merit Grade or above of this course many students apply for courses in Higher Education and certain universities are very keen to offer BTEC students a place on their degree or HND courses.The skills gained are also very relevant for seeking jobs in IT and Computing areas.

Further information

Students will be required to purchase a USB stick to back up work.Students aged 19 and over on 1st September will be required to pay an exam fee of £180.Trips - £30The above costs are approximate and payable at enrolment.
