History AS/A2 Level at Belfairs Academy

Course description

Our History qualifications have been designed to help students understand the significance of historical events, the role of individuals in history and the nature of change over time. Our qualifications will help them to gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. The engaging topics available tothem throughout the course will provide them with the knowledge and skills they require to succeed as historians.

2T The Making of Modern Britain, 1951-2007

3B Non-British Historical Investigation

Students will acquire an understanding of different identities  within society and an appreciation of social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity through the study of aspects of British , and non-British history.

 

Entry requirements

History grade C if studied at GCSE or a keen interest in History if not.

Assessment

Unit 1: Assessed

• 2½ hour written exam

• three questions (one compulsory)

• 80 marks

• 40% of A-Level

Unit 2: Assessed

• 2½ hour written exam

• three questions (one compulsory)

• 80 marks

• 40% of A-Level

Unit 3: A personal study based on a topic of student’s choice. Assessed

• 3000-3500 words

• 40 marks

• 20% of A-Level

• marked by teachers

• moderated by AQA

Future opportunities

Progression to higher education and a wide range of career pathways including those specific to history and those with broader potential including law.
