Course content

Topics studied at AS include: Unit One – Law Making Including the European and Domestic Legislative Process, Delegated Legislation, Influences on Parliament, Statutory Interpretation of Law and the Doctrine of Judicial Precedent. Unit Two – Dispute Solving Court structure, Alternatives to Court, the Legal Profession, Financing of Advice and the Judiciary. Unit Three – The Concept of Liability Criminal Liability in the context of Assault, Battery, Actual Bodily Harm, Wounding and Grievous Bodily Harm. The law of torts and sanctions and remedies including sentencing. Topics studied at A2 include: Unit Four – Criminal Law (Offences against the Person) Murder, Voluntary manslaughter, Involuntary manslaughter, Non-fatal offences against the person and Defences. Unit Five – Criminal Law (Offences against Property) Theft, Robbery, Burglary, Deception Offences (inc. taking off without payment), Criminal Damage and Defences. Unit Six – Concepts of Law The Law and Morals, The Law and Justice, Conflicts of Interest, The Concept of Fault and Judicial Creativity.

Entry requirements

Advanced courses usually require a grade C or above in the subjects you wish to study. (Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages may require a grade B).
