Biology A Level at London Academy

Course description

Biology focuses on the development of knowledge and understanding of fundamental biological concepts. Students will develop a detailed knowledge of life processes and an understanding of how organisms interact with their environment.

This is an experimental science so practical work is an important part of the course and you will develop skills in handling apparatus and organising investigations.

Biology is often taken in combination with Chemistry, Physics, and Maths. Chemistry A-Level supports some aspects of Biology but it is not essential. Students studying A-Level PE benefit from the study of the human biology elements of the course.

Entry requirements

Students are expected to have gained 5 A*- C grades at GCSE, including C grades for Core Science and Additional Science. Students are expected to have completed Higher Tier for GCSE Science. It is advisable to also have at least grade C in Maths and English Language. Students should be clear that Biology is a very demanding Science requiring strong English language and Mathematical skills as well as a real interest in Biology.
