Art, Design and Media ABC Foundation Diploma Level 3 at Cornwall College
The course is suited to post A-level students (or BTEC National qualification equivalent) as well as mature students.
The Foundation Diploma in art, design and media is an intensive one-year course giving students the opportunity to explore the many aspects of art and design before choosing an area in which to specialise. Students are taught workshops and studio-based projects introducing them to a range of materials, processes and approaches. The standard qualification is a Level 3 programme with the option of having work validated at Level 4.
The first term acts as an introduction to specialist processes and approaches where students work on projects in fine art, visual communication (graphic design & illustration), 4D (animation and time based media), photography, printmaking, life drawing and 3D.
At the start of the spring term students focus on one specialist area and work on projects for that subject only. After Easter students work on a Personal Confirmatory Study. This self-initiated project is an in-depth, and more independent enquiry preparing students (where appropriate) for working processes on degree. The course culminates in a final exhibition of their work.
The standard qualification is a Level 3 programme with the option of having work validated at Level 4. The specialist and experienced staff who teach on the course are all practicing artists and designers and the small class sizes allow students a great deal of contact time with tutors.
It is an ideal preparation for entry into higher education (degree) courses or to a career in art and design
