Further Mathematics AS/A Level at South Holderness Technology College

Course description

You should consider studying Further Mathematics if you intend to study Maths, Physics, Engineering or Economics at University. Further Maths must be studied alongside Mathematics and not as a single option.

This course will appeal to students who:
* have a real enthusiasm for Mathematics;
* have natural ability at Mathematics and enjoy the subject;
* enjoy the theoretical aspects of the subject and are keen to pursue this theory to more abstract concepts;
* enjoy problem solving and looking to apply mathematical models to reallife situations.

Course content

In Further Maths, you will study modules from the syllabus which include Further Core Maths and Decision Maths.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs A-C grade including Maths and English

You should expect to obtain at least a grade A at GCSE Maths, with a number of high grades in other subjects.

Assessment

Each A level is assessed by 6 modules and so Further Maths counts as two A levels, the assessment is by 12 module exams in June.

Future opportunities

Many students who complete the two-year course are offered places at prestigious universities especially in areas such as Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Finance.
