BTEC Diploma in Dance - Level 2 at Burton and South Derbyshire College

Course description

The Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. The course aims to introduce learners to contemporary, ballet and jazz techniques and to study choreography, dance history, performing arts, business and musical theatre. Throughout the year all students will have the opportunity to perform at the Brewhouse Arts Centre where practical assessments will take place. In addition to these performances students will be given the opportunity to perform with Mardi Gras Productions at the Royal Albert Hall and at a variety of local and national venues. Grading is through the regular assessment of coursework and practical work as well as portfolio building.

Entry requirements

• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or better (of which one subject may be specified at grade C) including either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent)*; or • Pass at NVQ Level 2 and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent); or • Pass at BTEC Diploma and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent). The College has the discretion to determine if 4 or 5 GCSE’s will be the entry standards for a Qualification. Applicants for Performing Arts qualifications must successfully undertake an audition. An interest in dance is essential and prior experience is desirable.
