BTEC Sport Level 3 DOUBLE AWARD at St Anselm's Catholic School

Course description

This course provides an introduction for learners looking to build a career in sport within coaching, leadership and sports development areas. It is the equivalent of 2 A Levels and is assessed on 100% coursework.

It gives learners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationally specific qualification in sport and leisure. It also provides an opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. 

Course content

Year 1

Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport

The physiology of fitness

Assessing risk in sport

Fitness testing for sport and exercise

Practical team sports

Leadership in sport

Work experience in sport


Year 2

Fitness training and programming

Sports coaching

Sports development

Practical individual sports

Sports injuries

Psychology for sports performance


Learners will have the opportunity to visit local workplaces in the sport and active leisure sector as well as studying a number of practical individual and team sports. Learners will also have the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and gain experience as sports leaders in conjunction with local primary schools.

Future opportunities

The course provides learners with the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or progress to higher education vocational qualifications.
