Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Harris Academy Peckham

Course description

This is taken over a 2 year period and is equivalent to 1 or 2 A Levels. It gives students the skills needed to progress to working in a care setting or an undergraduate degree in health and social care. The course is assessed using written assignments and a work placement. Students are also given the opportunity to attend practical trips which enhance their knowledge in of the subject area and universities visits.

Course content

Students study a wide range of units including the following:
Unit 1 Effective Communication
Unit 2 Equality and Diversity

Unit 7 Sociological Perspectives in Health and Social Care

Unit 8 Psychological Perspectives in Health and Social Care
Unit 10 Caring for children & young people
Unit 11 Safeguarding vulnerable adults

Future opportunities

Previous students have progressed to degrees in Nursing, Midwifery, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminology and Childhood Studies. Alternative options includes HND in managing health care services, social policy or teacher training.
