The course outline (including coursework/exam):

Unit 1 - 50%, introduces basic principles starting with definitions and interpretations of the concept of culture.You will draw on your own experience to explore the difference between 'High' and 'Popular' cultures and the reasons why different values are placed on different cultural products and pursuits.For example, is opera better than rock music? This unit also looks at the way that culture is communicated by language and non-verbal communication to make us the people we are.

Unit 2 - 50% , is a compulsory coursework module and develops understanding of the ideas of Unit 1 through a portfolio of investigations and presentation.

At A2, Unit 3 involves the study of the 'stories' that make up our culture in the form of plays, novels, films, exhibitions, computer games etc.Unit 4 is a coursework unit based on material provided by the exam board.Topics could include Cinema and Celebrity which can be presented in a variety of ways such as a web-based presentation
