Sociology at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy

Course description

What the subject is about: Sociology involves a study of a variety of sociological perspectives, and develops the ability to evaluate critically. The focus is on developing a range of analytical skills to gain a thorough understanding of a range of topics. Sociology is a useful background for studying social sciences, law and the humanities. You may progress into social work, careers in the health services, advertising and marketing, the media, the police and the legal profession. No prior knowledge is required, but students are expected to have a good standard of English, an enquiring mind and a keen interest in current issues.

    •  We are the only secondary school in the Black Country to hold FA Centre status.  Students who attend the Football Academy will combine guided learning hours in the Football Academy alongside their Sixth Form subjects.  There is also the opportunity for students to stay on in Year 14 to follow our Apprenticeship Programme or to take advantage of the links we have with football coaching camps in the USA or our links with the University of Worcester to access higher education.
