GCE A/S Languages - Japanese GCE A Level Languages - Japanese at Aldercar Community Language College

Course description

Unit 1: In the AS course you will learn how to read a
variety of texts in Japanese, to translate from Japanese to
English and to write newspaper articles, essays and
factual reports. You will also learn 200 kanji and related
vocabulary. You are assessed by a 2¾ hour end-of-year
written examination

Unit 2: As above and in addition in the A2 course you will
look at Japanese texts in greater depth, learn to translate
from English to Japanese, read and write in detail about
aspects of Japanese society, women and work, education,
aging society, economy, changes in society, family and
the workplace (Japanese traditions and events, religion,
arts and literature, a region of Japan, contemporary
society, work and education and environment issues) and
choose two texts / topics to explore in detail. You will also
learn 200 kanji (600 in total—200 each for GCSE, AS and
A2)

Entry requirements

Achieved a good higher grade GCSE Japanese and beensuccessful in a range of other subjects at GCSE
