Course description

Sports Level 2 Diploma

The qualification is aimed at those preparing to embark on a career in the sport and leisure industry, or wish to practically participate in a number of activities. They are practical, hands-on qualifications which are designed to prepare the candidate for work in a multitude of sport and leisure facilities and raise awareness of how and where to participate in sporting opportunities.

  • Participating in Sport
  • Injuries in Sport
  • Sport and Society
  • Sport as a Business
  • Understanding the Active Leisure Sector
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Events organisation in a Sport and Leisure Environment
  • Plan, Deliver and Evaluatee Sport and Leisure Activities
  • Factors affecting Participation in Sport

Students also complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT at varying levels depending on previous qualification and ability level. Students can be expected to be challenged to achieve as high a qualification as they can.

The course also includes work preparation skills and a work experience placement to experience a work environment.

Entry requirements

There are currently no entry requirements, a good attitude and a keen interest in sports is a must.

Assessment

Assessment on Vocational Qualifications is carried out by practical assessment, portfolio and formal examinations throughout the course.

Assessment on Functional Skills qualifications is carried out via formal examination with learners pushed to achieve as high a level as they can to help with their progression onto further study or apprenticeships.

Financial information

Weekly travel payments are paid into student's bank accounts on a weekly basis to cover the cost of a weekly bus pass.

Further finiancial help and support is available and will be discussed on an individual basis dependant on individual student needs.

 

Future opportunities

After completing a Level 2 Diploma, students have a number of possible progression routes to continue on their journey to becoming fully qualified:

  • Further college study

Students can apply to complete a Level 3 at college. This course is over two years and has possible progression onto a University degree course depending on the vocation area you want to commit too.

  • Employment

After successful completion of the level 2 Diploma particiapants can gain entry into Sports Coaching, Police Service, Gym instructing, Gym operations and Fire service.
