French A-Level at Smestow School

Course description

Students studying A level French follow the AQA GCE French syllabus. Two units make up the AS course and two further units complete the A2 section. All formal assessments are by examinations during the summer term.

Course content

Year 1 AS : we study four topics MEDIA POPULAR CULTURE HEALTHY LIVING FAMILY/REALTIONSHIPS Year 2 A2 : three more topics ENVIRONMENT MULTI-CULTURAL SOCIETY CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES and two cultural topics, for example a French artist/writer/film/20th C history

Entry requirements

You will need to develop skills in independent learning as there is a lot of new vocabulary and grammatical structures to remember and manipulate. You should be able to build on what you have learnt for GCSE French and be willing to speak French all the time in class! You will need to achieve at least a grade B in French at GCSE.

Assessment

AS Unit 1 Listening, Reading, Writing 2 hour examination Unit 2 Speaking test 35 minutes (inc 20 min prep) A2 Unit 3 Listening, Reading, Writing 2.30 hour examination Unit 4 Speaking test 35 mins (inc 20 min prep)
