Physics AS Level at Gordano School

Course description

A specification – content led approach. This offers a flexible approach where the specification is divided into key topic areas, each covering different concepts of physics. As students progress throughout the course, they’ll build on their knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to areas ranging from sub -atomic particles to the entire universe.

The new practical component for the A Level makes attendance paramount and students have to demonstrate progression in their experimental competence throughout their studies. Assessments completed throughout the year give students plenty of opportunity to reflect on their progress and address areas of development, with the support and guidance of their teachers.

Course content

The assessment for this course is entirely examined. There are 2 papers, each worth 50%, covering all content covered during the course.

Entry requirements

It is recommended that students will have a Grade 6 in Maths GCSE.

Future opportunities

Physics is regarded as incredibly desirable (if not essential) for a wide range of careers and further educational studies. Engineers, astronomers, medics, chemists, architects, research scientists and even accountants are likely to have some background in Physics.
