BTEC Music( Performing Arts) Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Havelock Academy

Course description

 

 

This course is ideal for anybody who wishes to pursue a future career in the music industry. It is also well suited to anybody who plays an instrument or sings to an appropriate level. The ability to read music would be beneficial.

The subsidiary diploma is worth the equivalent of one "A Level" and will count towards university entry.

It is possible for you to do traditional A Levels alongside this qualification.

Students should have a passion for music and be willing to play an active role in musical co-curricular activities and contribute to the Academy’s ensembles.

 

Course content

 

 

The subsidiary diploma requires you to study six units, including one mandatory and at least one specialist unit.

  • Mandatory unit - Music Performance Techniques
  • Specialist units (choose at least one from)
  •  Solo Music Performance
  •  Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble

Optional Units - choose three or four units from a list which includes units on:

  • World Music
  • Music Theory
  • Musical Theatre
  • Pop Music
  • Music Events Management
  • Sound Creation and Manipulation
  • Live Music Workshop

 

Entry requirements

 

 

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C, including English and maths. If music has not been studied at GCSE, an audition may be necessary to determine suitability for the course.

 

Assessment

 

 

Written coursework.

Practical (performance and recording) coursework.

 

Future opportunities

 

 

Degree courses in the following areas are common options: Music, Performing Arts, Arts Administration, Music Performance and Composition, Music Education, Sound Production and Recording.
