Art, Design & Media UAL Level 1 Diploma (Full-time) at East Surrey College

Course description

This Diploma begins at Unit 3. Units 1 and 2 are included in the Award Section, which must be passed in order to progress to the full Diploma. The Level 1 Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop the skills you need for this subject and help you to achieve your full potential. The course offers a broad introduction to Art, Design and Media for those with little practical experience, but who are committed to working in this area. This is a good access course for the subject. Work may include drawing, painting, printmaking, model making and some elementary creative media and animation. Mandatory work experience or a Work Related Brief, will also be undertaken by all learners outside college hours (WEX).

Course content

This course offers a wide range of exploration using different media, resources, and processes in order to prepare learners for Level 2 or as a stepping-stone to alternative courses or employment.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE grades A*-E that include Art or Design Technology, English and Maths.
A selection of work that demonstrates the skills required for this course is needed for interview.

Assessment

At the end of each unit there is a formal assessment by portfolio and tutorial. English and Maths Functional Skills are assessed by a formal examination.

Financial information

There will be a studio fee to be paid on enrolment. There may also be costs for visits to galleries. Help may be available for students drawing benefits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

This course provides the progression route for a career in the creative industries and can offer the chance to progress on to the Art, Design and Media UAL Level 2 Diploma or the Creative Media UAL Level 2 Diploma.

Further information

You will need a USB memory stick 1GB or more in size. You may also need to buy some materials if you choose to work with resources, which are not provided. A list of materials will be given on the first day of term.
