Public Services (BTEC) Level 3 Extended Diploma (3 A Levels equivalent) at Stanborough School

Course description

The Public Services course is designed to equip students with
the skills, discipline and knowledge required to make them
as employable as possible in a very competitive job market.
The Public Services delivery team includes highly experienced
teaching staff and external providers from professional bodies
such as the Police, Royal Air Force, Red Cross, Ambulance
Service, Local Primary Schools and Outdoor Adventure and
Leisure Centres.
The course is set up to be exciting, active and vibrant and will
provide students with all the support and guidance they need to
become qualified and employed, or where appropriate, for them
to succeed in their application to university.
The course ranges from Level 3 (A Level equivalent) to Level
2 (GCSE equivalent), so no matter what stage students are at
with their education, we offer a clear progression route that
will see them realise their potential. All students can expect
to study teamwork, leadership, citizenship, numeracy, literacy,
understanding diversity and discipline.
They will also enjoy specialist units such as outdoor and
adventurous expeditions, fitness training, expedition skills, work
experience and water based activities.
Learning will be varied and creative with an emphasis on practical
skills, work experience, teamwork and fitness. Assessment is via
100% coursework-based projects and there are no exams.
Visits will be made to various organisations and guest speakers
will be invited to talk about their career experiences.
Students will also have the opportunity to achieve additional
qualifications such as First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh, National
Governing Body Awards in Sporting Activities and Leadership
Awards, all of which make a candidate stand out when seeking
After successful completion of the Public Service course students
will feel confident about applying for a vast range of careers. All
of the skills learned from leadership, communication, acting on
initiative, taking responsibility for themselves and others, coupled
with a good standard of literacy and numeracy are directly
transferable from the uniformed public services, such as the Fire
Brigade, Ambulance Service, Royal Air Force, Police and the
Prison Service, to working in a bank, office or school.
After successfully completing the BTEC Level Three, students
would also be equipped to further their education by applying for
a degree level course at university.
Students joining the course will be expected to wear the public
services uniform that is available to purchase from Onslow
St Audrey’s School. Students will also need to contribute
approximately £200 over the two years to take part in the
additional activities.

Entry requirements

APS 38.5 if the majority of subjects studied are BTECs. A successful interview.
