Course description

This course has a broad starting point and is for students who wish to find a specialist in an art and design subject. This course has pathways in the following areas:
 Fashion and Textiles
 Graphics, Illustration, Animation and Multimedia Design
 Three Dimensional Design
 Fine Art
This is a vocational alternative to the ‘A’ Level route offering a solid grounding for specialisation. This course is designed to teach the skills common to all art and design students. The first stage of this course is best described as ‘basic training’. A broad introduction is very important before students specialise in one of four subject pathways in the second stage. We also provide all the support and guidance needed for the portfolio preparation for UCAS applications or job interviews. Course content

Intro to visual language; Intro to research skills; Intro to critical and contextual awareness; Intro to materials, processes and technical skills; An integrated approach to 2D problem solving; An integrated approach to 3D problem solving; An integrated approach to time based problem solving; Developing and art & design project; Opportunities for progression; Characteristics and contexts; Preparation for progression; Engaging with an audience; Project proposal and realisation.

Entry requirements

6 GCSEs grades A*-C including Art or Design Technology, English and Maths. Level 2 qualifications in Art & Design are also acceptable but must be assessed to be able to progress and have the aptitude to achieve a Level 3 Art & Design course. A portfolio of work is to be shown at interview.

Assessment

At the end of each project there is a formal assessment by portfolio and tutorial with formal feedback.

Financial information

There will be a studio fee payable per year. There are also costs for visits to galleries and museums in London. Help is available for students drawing benefits. If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.
 

Future opportunities

This course provides the progression route for a career in the creative industries of Art, Design and Media. This course mainly provides a progression to a higher level course at degree level subjects such as: Graphic Design, Fashion and Textiles, Illustration, Animation, Multimedia Design, Three Dimensional Design, Photography, Fine Art etc.

Further information

A broad range of general art materials, you will need to buy some materials, sketchbook, drawing and painting materials as well as a work box, a list will be issued.
