Music Level 2 Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

A BTEC First in Music provides education and training for musicians who are keen to achieve a nationally recognised vocational qualification. During the course you will be given the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for success in working life. It is a full time course and successful completion will provide opportunities to enter employment or to progress onto our Level 3 qualification in Music, Music Technology, Performing Arts, Media or Art and Design.

Course content

The course is structured around a range of projects which cover a variety of different aspects of the Music Industry including working as a musical ensemble, exploring musician based computer software systems, musical improvisation and recording techniques.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above to include English.


Work is assessed throughout the course via a range of vocationally relevant projects.

  • Performance
  • Satisfactory level of music performance/DJ (MC)

Future opportunities

In order to progress onto Level 3 90 credits Diploma in Music or Music technology a final grade of merit and grade C or equivalent in English will be required.
