AS course: one Year

  • Social issues and trends
    Study themes and sub-themes in relation to at least one French-speaking country. Themes include: the changing nature of the family, the cyber society, the place of voluntary work.
  • Artistic culture in the French-speaking world
    Study themes and sub-themes in relation to at least one French-speaking country. Themes include: a culture proud of its heritage, contemporary francophone music, cinema the 7th art form.
  • Works: Literary texts (novel) and films

Entry requirements

GCSE French at grade B or above is preferred.

GCSE Average above 5.0.

Assessment

  • Paper 1
    Written exam 1¾ hour 
    (Listening, reading and writing)
    40% of AS Level
  • Paper 2
    Written exam 1¼ hour
    (Translation into French; Either one question in French on a set text from a choice of two questionsor one question in French on a set film from a choice of two questions)
    30% of AS Level
  • Paper 3
    Speaking Oral exam 12 to 14 mins
    (Discussion of two sub-themes: 6 to 7 mins on each, with the discussion based on a stimulus card for each sub-theme; the cards can be studied for 15 minutes before the test begins)
    30% of AS Level

Future opportunities
