Hospitality and Catering Level Diploma at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is for students who are thinking of entering the catering profession and want to gain a national qualification in catering.

Course content

You will have the opportunity to gain a certificate in general cookery at Level 1 and qualifications in Functional Skills up to level 2 or GCSE in Maths and English.

To do this you will study and work in our training kitchen and other parts of the college. You will learn the skills needed to be employed in the catering and hospitality industry and have the chance to prepare food and meals for people working in college and for visitors and customers.

You will work towards your Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and undertake two days work experience per week as part of your course.

Your tutors will be working with you throughout the year and you will have the opportunity to take part in a study tour, fire training, and visit food fairs.

Entry requirements

Enthusiasm and a positive attitude, and commitment to learning about catering. GCSEs in D – G range or equivalent.

Assessment

  • You will take part in initial assessment to establish your starting point, this will initiate your Individual Learning Aims
  • You will be assessed on the work you produce and your ability to show what skills you have learnt. You will have plenty of practice before you are assessed
  • You will be given an assessment plan for all units at the beginning of the course

Future opportunities

You may like to seek employment/apprenticeship in the catering industry or apply for a Level 2 course.
