Business - BTEC National Diploma at Skinners' Academy

Course description

BTEC Nationals are qualifications that are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications that cover all aspects of business. It will equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills that you will need in preparation for employment. We, in the consortium, will be delivering the Award and Certificate qualification. The Award qualification is the equivalent to the old GCE single award, whilst the Certificate is the same as the old double award GCE. Entry to the course It is recommended that if you wish to take this course that you have one of the following: • a BTEC First qualification in Business or a related vocational area • an Intermediate GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area • a GCSE equivalent to four passes at grade C • other related Level 2 qualifications What will I study? All students for both the Award and Certificate must take the following units • Exploring Business Activity • Investigating Business Resources • Introduction to Marketing • Effective People, Communication and Information For the Award you will also take two further specialist units and the Certificate a further 8 units, over the course of two years, that include topics such as: • Understanding Financial Accounting • Exploring Creative Product Promotion • Human Resource Management in Business • Aspects of Criminal Law Relating to Business • Website Production and Management Assessment All units are assessed and graded by teachers. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements

for AS level – a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above, usually with a Grade B or above in the subject to be taken at AS level or in an associated subject. for A2 level – candidates should normally have obtained a pass at AS level, preferably at grade C or above.

It provides learners with progression opportunities to higher education. Progression may be to foundation degrees, higher national diplomas or degrees at university.
