BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Interactive Media at North Shropshire College - NSC

Course description

This extended diploma/subsidiary diploma is an art and design qualification primarily and involves aspects of graphic design, photography, video technology, computer games design, web design and animation.

The course is practical by nature and involves industry-standard project briefs that cover a number of subjects providing students with a broad range of skills and the option to specialise in year two with a Final Major Project. Included in this course is the opportunity to go on international and national trips.

What is the structure of the course?

This is a creative and exciting art & design based course running at the Oswestry campus. There will be opportunities to work in vocational environment learning about a range of art, design and media. 

You will be working on industry-standard project briefs which encourage course work that reflects creativity, flair and investigation.  The course is made up of 18 units (Extended) or 9 units (Subsidiary) 5 of which are core art units, 7 will be specialist and 6 others to be claimed. Subject include: Visual Recording, Ideas & Concepts, Video for Interactive Media, Computer Games Design, 2D Animation, Website Design, Photography, Concept Art for Computer Games and more.

The course is assessed continuously, with an external verifier from Edexcel sampling the course annually.

 

What do I need to bring with me?

 

You will need basic art and design materials such as a good range of pencils, pens, paints, ruler, rubber, sharpener as well as a sketchbook for certain units. The college sell art packs which include the necessary equipment. It is vital that you bring in a memory stick. It would also be useful if you had your own camera.

How can I prepare myself before the course begins?

It would be useful to gain a deeper understanding of your favourite subject specialism such as games design, concept art, photography, graphic design or fine art. Useful information can be found on the web or specialist books.
