Product Design Textiles AS level at Kings Langley School
This course will provide opportunities for you to develop your creative, analytical and practical skills using textiles technology as your focus area. You will be involved in designing and making textiles products closely linked to the real world of product manufacture. There are two equally weighted units of study at 'AS' Level.
Unit 1 - Materials, Components and Application, which covers topics such as fabrics, pre-manufactured components, production methods for manufacture and finishing processes e.g. dyeing and decorative techniques.
Unit 2 - Learning Through Designing and Making. This project may take a number of forms; a single design and make project, two smaller projects and/or a portfolio of work.
Design and Technology Textiles Technology GCSE at least at Grade C.
Unit 1 will be assessed through an examination set and marked by AQA.
Unit 2 is a coursework project. This can take the form of a written or electronic design portfolio with manufactured outcome(s) that display work for all areas of the design and manufacture process of one product or, a series of two or more miniature projects that when combined will cover all areas of the design and manufacture process.
Courses in higher education: textile design, fashion design, interior design and costume design etc. Many of the research, evaluating and reporting skills will be of great use for a wide range of 'unrelated' areas of study.
Textiles technology at AS level requires you to design and make a number of products. You will examine and evaluate real products, trial and test a range of materials and develop modelling skills.
