Painting and Decorating - CSkills Awards Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating at Calderdale College

Course description

To provide the candidate with a broad knowledge, understanding and skill training to become qualified within Painting and Decorating. The qualification is aimed at those individuals wishing to join the construction industry as Painters and Decorators.

Course content

This is a practical course, some of the course units are: Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction; Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms; Know how to apply waterborne paint systems using high volume low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment; Apply paint systems by brush and roller; Prepare for and paint flush doors and hang wallpaper (Practical Synoptic Assignment); Prepare for and decorate a room including doors and balustrades; Produce specialist decorative finishes There are 12 units in total to complete which includes an external test at the end of the course. At the end of this qualification you will be considered fully qualified at advanced Level.

Teaching is mainly practically based with lectures and demonstrations in the specialist workshops.  Learners will also participate in individual and group tutorials in order to discuss their progress.

Entry requirements

NVQ 2 or Level 2 Diploma Painting & Decorating

Assessment

Practical assessment is continual throughout the course with job knowledge tests at the end of each unit.  There are also two short answer written paper tests to assess knowledge and understanding.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

All successful students may have the opportunity to progress onto Painting and Decorating Occupations NVQ Level 3. Employment opportunities could include an apprenticeship in your chosen trade area.
