Applied Science (BTEC) at Stanford & Corringham Sixth Form Centre
The qualification is designed to provide highly specialist, work related qualifications in a range of vocational contexts. For anyone who sees their future career in Science, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is an excellent starting point. It covers a wide range of topics across Biology, Chemistry and Physics and will allow you to acquire a high level of practical laboratory skills from which the theory is then drawn.
PLEASE NOTE: This course could run over the 3 schools. Details of where this course will run in September will be available at a later date.
This level 3 course will immerse you in the world of Applied Science through discovery and experimentation. Serving as a great alternative to A-Levels, this course is designed specifically for those who prefer hands on experience and practical assignments to theoretical study and exams. The course is assignment based and will give you a broad scientific knowledge in Science that will get you ready for work or university.
The majority of our students progress to universities including Nottingham, Loughborough and Surrey amongst others. They study a wide variety of degrees including Microbiology, Sports and exercise Science, Forensic Science and Physics.
For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships.
The BTEC course is very practical with plenty of opportunities to implement the theory that you learn. You can go on a residential field trip to complete a scientific investigation. It is mainly course-work based, which means that you have a very clear understanding of your progress throughout the course, to help you plan and achieve your next steps. Taught by subject specialists, with laboratory experience, you will learn by completing laboratory-based practical assignments, supported self-study assignments, presentations and discussions that are based on real workplace situations, activities and demands.
