Design & Technology A Level at Strode's College

Course description

This is a creative course with an emphasis on practical problem solving in 3D using a range of modelling materials. Design themes include Product Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Packaging, Promotional Devices, Signage, Street Furniture and Environmental Design e.g. Theme Parks. Your coursework projects will develop your investigative, design, CAD and model-making skills. All your final outcomes will involve both graphic and practical elements.

Course content

This is an ideal course to explore your creative potential and develop your drawing and ICT skills. You will have the opportunity to build models and prototypes of the products you have designed and acquire knowledge about materials, manufacturing processes and CAD/CAM systems.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for a Level 3 Pathway. Plus a C in Design and Technology GCSE or Merit in Level 2 Design BTEC.


Your final assessment will be a combination of both coursework and external examination.

Financial information

College Art and Design Exhibition, visiting Art and Design Exhibitions and Galleries. The London Open House Architecture Weekend, the London Design Festival and the New Designers Exhibition.

Future opportunities

Students have progressed into related employment and apprenticeships. They have also gone on to study Degree courses such as Product Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, 3D Design, Computer Game Design, Sports Technology, Interior Design, Architecture, Furniture Design, Engineering, Civil and Automotive Engineering.
