'Abortion is murder' – is it? 'Internet pornography is immoral' - is it? 'Extreme religious ideas are dangerous' - are they? Course Overview
Ethics 1: We study a range of ethical theories such as Utilitarianism, Situation Ethics, the Nature and Value of Human Life and in
depth ethical questions raised by Abortion and Euthanasia.
Philosophy of Religion: We study the cosmological argument, whether religious experience proves that God exists, the rise of atheism and the 'death of God' and whether the idea of a God has been explained away by psychology.
Ethics 2: We build upon the ethical ideas and question whether we have free will or if all our actions determined.
Religious Fundamentalism: We look at the origins of religious fundamentalism and in the world today. We compare and contrast the Taliban and the Amish.
B grade in GCSE English language; the ability to enquire, think critically, reflect and evaluate to construct an argument; the ability to reflect on and develop own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning.
